Lonestar Solstice

One of my favorite patterns to teach is “Summer Solstice” by Judy Niemeyer.  Several techniques are used to make this fabulous quilt and I call it a weekend quilt – once you know the techniques – you can make it in a weekend.  I have made 4 of these quilts myself.

A couple of weeks ago I was the guest speaker for the Baytown Area Quilt Guild.

I always enjoy when guild members bring their “Judy” quilts for show and tell on the night I am there.  We had 3 Judy quilts, 2 of them were Summer Solstice.  A fellow Certified Instructor had taught this class at Painted Pony in 2013 and these were 2 of the quilts finished in that class.  (Please forgive the photography on these, during show and share the quilts are moving targets!)

I also recently volunteered to make a sample for Quiltworx aka Judy Niemeyer Quilting for fall market here in Houston starting next week.  The pattern – Summer Solstice – the fabrics the new “Reclaimed West” line designed by Judy and Judel Niemeyer and distributed by Timeless Treasures.   If you will be at Market stop by the Checkers booth to see it in person!  Many more samples for this fabric line will be in the Timeless Treasures booth!

Golden Needles Quilt Guild

Last week I gave my trunk show and taught 2 days of classes for the Golden Needles Quilt Guild in Conroe, TX.  This was my 3rd visit to their guild and I am always delighted to visit with them.  I live south of Houston and Conroe is north of Houston.  Houston is a very large city so I make it an overnight event when visiting the Golden Needlers!  This year my hostess was LouAnn and she took very good care of me.

She and her husband had just moved into this home in the spring.  The selling factor for LouAnn was the studio – and I have to agree with her – it is FABULOUS!

The workshop they chose was Cactus Flower Table Runner, normally a 1 day workshop.  I must say by the 2nd day they were off and running on their own.  I helped pull papers so they could do more curved piecing!  I am scheduled to teach this workshop one more time this year at the Baytown Area Quilt Guild, Tuesday, October 7.

By lunch on day one most students had 4 M units done. Here is a compilation from a few of the students.

When we drove up to the venue for the workshop I was a little surprised.

Be sure to stop by the Coastal Prairie Quilt show, Stafford, TX on September 12 &13.  I will have a vendor booth there, but most importantly are all of the beautiful quilts that will be there.

Want me to come visit your guild?  Send me a note.

Now to sew!
